How can we help coral reefs remain resilient in a changing ocean?

The latest episode of Edge of Knowledge, a collaboration between Red Sea Global (RSG) and Warner Bros. Discovery, explores this question at Corallium Marine Life Institute, a new hub for research, conservation, education, and marine life experiences at AMAALA.

Developed by RSG in partnership with KAUST, Corallium brings scientific research closer to the public while supporting efforts to understand and protect the remarkable ecosystems of the Red Sea.

Among the research highlighted in the episode is microbial stewardship, an approach to coral conservation focused on the microorganisms living in close association with corals. Prof. Raquel Peixoto explains how these invisible communities play a fundamental role in coral health and how beneficial microbes could potentially be used to help corals withstand environmental stress through probiotic treatments.

Corallium will bring together research laboratories, coral propagation facilities, immersive exhibits, and a 9-million-liter living reef display, while also supporting long-term conservation through living collections and biobanking initiatives.

The episode also explores how bringing visitors closer to the science can help turn knowledge into greater awareness and encourage wider participation in coral conservation.
