The Marine Microbiomes lab focuses on the symbiotic relationships between marine hosts and their associated microbiomes. Our main goal is to describe, understand and ultimately manipulate microbial-mediated beneficial mechanisms to develop marine probiotics. The Red Sea corals are probably the most adapted to cope with unusual high seawater temperature and salinity that prevail in this ocean.  These adverse and highly variable conditions make the Red Sea a perfect model for studying the future of coral reefs in the current climate change scenario. Moreover, the unique symbiotic relations of the RS corals and its associated microbes are of great importance to develop new microbial consortia that act as a customized medicine to benefit coral’s health, as a strategy to contribute to coral reef conservation, restoration and rehabilitation efforts worldwide.
