At World Oceans Week in New York, Red Sea Global introduced Corallium, a new marine life institute opening at AMAALA that will bring together scientific research, conservation, education, and immersive visitor experiences under one roof.
The event gathered leading voices in ocean conservation, including renowned marine biologist and oceanographer Sylvia Earle, who highlighted the importance of protecting marine ecosystems and praised the vision behind Corallium and Red Sea Global’s regenerative approach to tourism.
As part of the event, KAUST Professor Raquel Peixoto (2025 EC50 laureate), on top of being the anchor of the Tales from the Red Sea session, also shared her research on coral reef ecosystems and the role of beneficial microbes in supporting coral health and resilience. Peixoto's group work actually reflects and aligns with the broader mission of Corallium, which aims to translate cutting-edge science into practical conservation solutions and public engagement.
Designed as Saudi Arabia’s flagship center for marine research and conservation, Corallium will combine coral restoration laboratories, educational programs, and interactive experiences to advance ocean stewardship while connecting visitors with the unique marine environments of the Red Sea.
