While much of the investigative piece details how rising global temperatures are fueling the rapid spread of dangerous pathogenic fungi and "flesh-eating" bacteria like Vibrio vulnificus, Prof Peixoto’s research is described as a proactive effort to leverage the microscopic world to save dying ecosystems—specifically, coral reefs.
