KAUST, in partnership with Nature Portfolio, hosted a high-level international conference titled "Corals, Coasts and One Health," marking a significant step in science-led environmental collaboration within the Kingdom and internationally. Professor Raquel Peixoto, Lead Chair and organizer of the conference, endorsed this event as coral reef degradation is already more than an environmental crisis.

The three-day event brought together a diverse assembly of world-leading coral reef researchers, policymakers, and restoration practitioners. Participants included representatives from major Saudi initiatives such as Red Sea Global, SHAMS, and the National Center for Wildlife, high-level renowned speakers in the field, and international scientists from Nature Reviews Earth & Environment, Nature Ecology & Evolution, and Nature Climate Change.

The conference was framed around the One Health concept, which emphasizes the deep interconnection between ecosystem health and human well-being, a central theme very well known and studied by Prof Raquel Peixoto.
