Professor Raquel Peixoto, research is highlighted for the pioneering work in developing probiotic medicine to help corals cope with climate change. Specifically, it is mentioned that the Marine Microbiomes Lab has developed and is testing innovative delivery systems, such as bacterial pills (slow-releasing encapsulations) and an automated dispenser called Coral AI™ (an irrigation system), within a dedicated "Coral Probiotics Village" in the Red Sea, aiming to "buy time" for corals to survive bleaching events.
