Microbial Ecology enters the Global Policy Stage

Professor Raquel Peixoto is co-chair and a key leader in the formation of the IUCN Microbial Conservation Specialist Group (MCSG), a groundbreaking global initiative.

Representing the International Society for Microbial Ecology (ISME) and the global collaboration Soil Stars, she co-chaired the group alongside Professor Jack Gilbert. Her contribution validates the inclusion of microbes into global conservation policy, and with her work, it was highlighted the necessity of microbiome-based solutions for ecosystem restoration and climate resilience, fulfilling the mission of safeguarding and restoring microbial diversity and function across Earth's ecosystems.
