Following the release of the Emergency bulletin! published by 14 journals on an urgent call for the deployment of microbial solutions against climate catastrophe, our very own KAUST Prof. Raquel Peixoto, made already a significant impact at the COP29 climate conference - which start day is only today!
In a 10-minute segment on the BBC, she highlighted the potential of microbiology to combat climate change and discussed the six proposed solutions outlined in the Emergency bulletin, emphasizing their simplicity and effectiveness.
Prof Peixoto explained how these solutions, such as using bacteria to capture carbon dioxide, could be game-changers in the fight against climate change and also addressed the crucial role of government support in scaling up these solutions. She called on policymakers to listen to the latest scientific advancements and invest in research and development.
The BBC interview showcased KAUST's commitment to groundbreaking research and its potential to address global challenges. By highlighting the power of these microbial solutions, Peixoto positioned KAUST as a leading institution in the field of climate science.
