Dr Raquel Peixoto, named as winner of the inaugural Rachel Carson Prize 2023, was featured by The Microbiologist for her efforts revolving around coral conservation and restoration with the use of probiotics.

It was noted the ongoing automated application of probiotics in pilot trials in the Red Sea, at the Coral Probiotics Village, and the investigation around the response of the entire reef, within a “One Reef Health” framework, - a research project currently being undertaken by the Marine Microbiomes Lab.
