Prof Raquel Peixoto and the Marine Microbiomes Lab representing KAUST at COP28

07 December, 2023

Prof. Peixoto's research was highlighted during COP28.

COP 28, a conference that focuses on accelerating global action on climate change comes at a time when the world is facing a number of climate-related challenges and Prof Raquel Peixoto represented KAUST, as well as ISME, when attending several discussion panels and high-level events to promote efforts towards the safeguarding of coral reefs. Examples of those events are:

  • “From Pledges to action for corals” with several distinguished speakers with CORDAP;
  • "Safeguarding Our Planet: Biodiversity, Climate & One Health" with AEON Collective;
  • "Unleashing Essential Commercialization: Converting sustainability research into impact" session;
  • "Solutions Toolbox to Save Coral Reefs" session at the Ocean Pavilion;
  • Launch of the Coral Restoration Consortium's Storytelling Hub at the Commonwealth Pavilion.

As well the Coral AI probiotics dispenser and the just-launched Coral Probiotics Village 3D VR, developed in collaboration with the KAUST KVL, were in exhibition at the KAUST booth at COP28 with the support of the Research Scientist Gustavo Duarte.

Professor Peixoto's participation in COP28 is a testament to KAUST's and the Marine Microbiomes Lab's commitment to addressing the climate crisis.
