Coral Bleaching 2023

11 September, 2023

We need to raise awareness for a ‘Call for Action’ concerning the ongoing  global bleaching event.

Together with colleagues from KAUST, the University of Konstanz (Germany), the ICRS and the Seychelles Island Foundation (SIF), are calling everyone who has access to coral reefs to monitor, tag and report colonies that are sensitive or more resistant (i.e., bleach later than other colonies of the same species).  Use the flyer QRcode to access the website (www.globalcoralbleaching.com ) where you will find a report form.

The aim is to encourage the scientific community and, importantly, the general public to provide information on the presence/absence of coral bleaching and associated data and this broad effort will complement NOAA’s Coral Reef Watch data and provide a baseline for comparison of in situ bleaching observations and satellite-based sea surface temperature data.

The data collected and submitted to this platform will be used to create an interactive map of bleaching prevalence open to everyone. The data will be publicly available on the website and will be provided to NOAA and CORDIO to complement their records.

If you see something, say something!!

To report your observations, get more information and to download our flyers in higher quality to share this call on social media (@bleaching2023), follow this link: http://www.globalcoralbleaching.com .
